Welcome to Wardie School

About Wardie School

:: Introduction to Wardie Primary

Wardie is a non-denominational school with three P1 classes and two classes at each stage from P2 to P7.  The school is located to the North of the city of Edinburgh, close to the Firth of Forth with the Royal Botanical Gardens to the south of its catchment. Next to the school is a large sports recreation ground. The school grounds are managed by a committee of enthusiastic staff, parents and pupils and there is a long term development plan incorporating provision for play and conservation. Wardie Primary was built in 1931 and has recently undergone a programme of refurbishment, providing a spacious and flexible environment for learning, a new library and parents' room.
The school has fostered many links with its community, particularly Wardie Church and St Columba's Hospice and is used for community activities outwith school hours. To arrange these, contact the letting department at 10 Wellington Court, Waterloo place, Edinburgh EH1 3EG.

:: Wardie After School Club

Wardie After School Club (WASC) is an independent, self-financing organisation providing good quality, affordable child care for any child attending Wardie Primary School.

It is located in the dining hall of the school (accessible by the ramp from the P1 playground) where we have a wide range of activities ranging from arts and crafts to a pool table and Nintendo Wii.  In the summer months  children have the use of the playgrounds.

WASC is run by Linda Watters, an experienced nursery nurse who is also a learning assistant within the school.  She has a team of 5 staff, 4 of whom are qualified.

The club runs every day from 2.40pm – 3.15pm (first session P1 & P2 only) and from 3.15pm – 5.30pm (for the whole school).  Places are limited as the club can only accommodate 40 in each session so it is advisable to apply early. P1 parents who don’t get in initially will almost certainly get places in the early session and full time places will be allocated as and when they come up.

The club can be contacted in opening hours on a phone in the dining hall 0131 552 5538.

In the holidays WASC runs a holiday club.  At February half term, the first week of the Easter holidays and in the summer for the first three weeks.  Places are open to all pupils not just those who are members of the club though children who are members get priority.  Holiday club is themed each day and includes highlights such as trips to the cinema and Noah’s Ark.

For further details contact Wardie After School Club on 0131  552 5538 or e-mail Linda.w@blueyonder.co.uk

:: Wardie Parents and Teachers Association (PTA)

The Parents and Teachers Association is a voluntary organisation run by both staff and parents at Wardie P.S.

The P.T.A. raises funds through organising a variety of events throughout the school year, eg Beetle Drive, Quiz Night, Family Ceilidh and our main fund raiser the Wardie School Fair.

All monies raised go to the school and the children.

In the past the P.T.A. have had some large long term projects, i.e. the refurbishment of the hall and the provision of the playground equipment.

However we also help provide other small requests, i.e. football strips, games for the golden time boxes, extra Christmas materials, juice and biscuits for Scottish week to name but a few.

This year we have a larger project again and in keeping with our Eco schools project have highlighted the school grounds as a priority. We want to update the play equipment, clean up the forest and provide more seating areas around the field.

The P.T.A. holds meetings every 6/8 weeks throughout the year and asks its members for as much help as they can give. Every little helps, some people can only make the odd meeting but are keen to help at some events others have a larger commitment.

If you are interested in lending your support to the P.T.A. and ultimately your children then please get in touch with Corinne Cervetti through the school office.

C.Cervetti (chairperson)
