19 Nov 2009 - Curriculum Evening & Other News
I would like to invite you to a Curriculum Evening on 25th November from 7.30 to 8.45pm. The first part of the evening will be in the form of an update on Curriculum for Excellence. The second part of the evening will be an opportunity for you to go to your child's classroom to find out how you can support learning at home using a website called Delicious. Some teachers have already sent some information home and pupils have been accessing activities at home. This will give everyone the chance to view the materials and see them being used. To help us with the arrangements could you please fill in the tear off slip below and return it to school by Friday 20th November.
HOMECOMING PROJECT
As previously mentioned, all the classes in the school are involved in activities and learning experiences based on the Kathleen Fiddler novel "Desperate Journey". The novel is about the Highland Clearances and follows a family's journey to make a new life in Canada. The classes are focusing on Scottish and Canadian culture. This will involve them in many curricular areas such as reading, writing, listening, talking, music and art. To allow them to share their learning you are invited to an Open Day on 1st December. I have listed the times when each class will be visiting the exhibition, to allow you to visit with your child's class. If this is not convenient you are very welcome to pop in any time between 9.15am and 3.15pm.

The children are also allowed to wear some tartan on that day and in return donate 50p in aid of the Children 1st charity. If you would like to please feel free to join in the fun and dress in tartan when you visit! May I stress that the 50p donation is not compulsory for parents or children.
The kitchen staff are also joining in with the theme and there will be a letter out next week outlining the lunch menu for the day. The cook will need to know the numbers in advance, so please check for the letter at the end of next week.
NEARLY NEW UNIFORM
The P7 classes will be helping the PSA to sell nearly new uniform on 25th November between 2.30 and 3.30pm. The last sale was very successful and so we hope this will be repeated. All profits go to the PSA.
DOGS
I have been asked to remind all dog owners to ensure that dogs are not tied up too close to the gates where the children go in and out. Some children have been distressed by this. Thank you for your co-operation with this matter.
CHRISTMAS CARDS
Once again the children have designed their own Christmas cards this year, these will be available to purchase either via school or through the internet and a percentage of the money raised will be given back to the school. Sample cards and order forms will be coming home in school bags shortly. Please be aware that we need to receive order forms back by Friday 20th November in order to ensure orders are processed in time for Christmas.
There were a number of children who were absent during the week the card designs were sent away, these children will not receive sample cards in their school bags, however their designs will be able to be viewed and purchased online shortly. Full details of the web address and each child's unique design code will be issued to individual parents as soon as we have full details. If you have any queries please contact the school office who will pass your query on to Mrs Shona O'Connor one of our P2 parents who works very hard at this time of year organising our Christmas cards and calendars.
